Muslims from Cambodia under watch

Immigration police have been instructed to keep a close watch on Cambodian Muslim people travelling into Thailand as tourists, Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa said on Monday.

Gen Yutthasak, who is in charge of security affairs, said nearly 1,000 Cambodian Muslims were arriving in the country each day.

Apart from the necessity for immigration police to keep them under watch, the Cambodian government would also be asked to provide information about them, he said.

Proper policing of the border is an important part of security for the country. However, public statements about targeting specific groups is at best empty PR and at worst helps the targets to avoid interception.

Also, I thought the government was seeking to avoid the southern conflict getting international attention? Is giving a hard time to another group of ASEAN Muslims really going to help this?

    FYI

There are hundreds of thousands of muslims living in Cambodia but you never hear of any problems with them. That is because Hun Sen keeps an iron fist down on them. They may not be tourist but immigrating illegally.
