New southern ops centre discussed

The National Security Council (NSC) today held a meeting with the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) and Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC) to discuss the responsibilities of the new operations centre for solving problems in southern border provinces.

Isoc spokesman Maj-Gen Dithaporn Sasasamit said the new centre, which has yet to be officially established, would be responsible for collating reports from various agencies for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, so she could make swift decisions on solving problems without having to go through the details herself.

He said the operations centre would initially be an ad hoc organisation set up by a prime minister's order, specifically for solving problems in the far South.

Another layer upon layer of possibilities to paas the buck and not accomplish anything. This initiative was prominently published weeks ago and even at that time the questions of "accountability", "mission statements/objectives" were posed. Now we see that basically nothing has really has been done. A questionable decision to place one person in charge of this who already has very important(not grandeur enhancing) responsibilities shows a lack of a true grip pn what running a country is all about. Very encouraging that the problems in the South are targeted,"The working committee would initially consist of no more than 40 members. The number of personnel could be increased as necessary along with added responsibilities." What an example of indecision..

You don't solve problems by creating committees to collate the reports from committees overseeing he committees that decide which committees should have sub committees (all of which have interlocking directorates ... which begs the question does Mr C get bonus salary for every committee he heads?).

No what you do is appoint ministers that have background in the fields and ask them to use their experience to manage the situation. And you allow them to bring in outside experts to fine tune a comprehensive plan. AND you keep politicians totally out of the planning and execution process.

and meanwhile , in other news today , two more people were killed today in the South.

Two things are very clear.

#1 all that is happening is another layer of "management " is being added for no increase in productivity and;

#2 Big C is conspicuous by his absence including refusing to visit the South. Over to you Madam PM.

One of the few clear things about the southern situation is that there is far too much overlap between areas of responsibility and far too many turf-wars over funding and authority (and hence failures to work together effectively).
If all the new centre will do is "collating reports" then this seems too much hype for such a small result.
