FM claims success

The Foreign Ministry has been particularly successful in restoring relations with neighbouring countries and others during the first year of the government under Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Sunday.

Mr Surapong said that during the reign of the previous government Thailand had problems over its relations with some neighbouring countries.

This government's urgent task was to redress those soured relations.

FM claims success - the same FM also claimed he didn't know where Thaksin was.

What about countries that don't border Thailand?

I'm glad to hear how wonderful relations with Cambodia are now. But I suppose Surapong still hasn't been able to free the two Yellow Shirt people in jail there because Thaksin hasn't approved their release yet. Perhaps leaving them there is part of the reconciliation strategy.

It is sad that under Mr Surapong's watch, relations with the US have soured as a result of scrapping the proposed regional disaster relief centre. That was due to the Democrats playing the nationalism card though, so the FM cannot be totally blamed.

Most people like to deal with those they feel they can trust hence the improvemnent in relations.

    Which success ?
Abhisit government had not problem with Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia. Abhisit governement had problem with PM Hunsen, not with the Cambodians. Hunsen sided with Taksin, it was the real problem.
Concerning Khao Phre Vihar, nothing has changed, not yet solution and this is only statu quo.
Thailand will benefit from the "opening" of Myanmar....but because of Myanmar, not because of FM Surapong

Hostilities in Cambodia ended the moment Thaksin asked Hun Sen to stop them. Exactly the way they started.

And didn't I read yesterday Myanmar jailed 70 Thais for 7 years for trespassing? Hmm Good relationship.

Sorry Mr Surapong, after your statement as to why PT do not try to get extradition warrants for Thaksin I do not believe a word you say.

Looks like Thailand needs a new Foreign Minister as well.
