Asst village chief slain in Yala

An assistant village headman was shot dead in Raman district of Yala on Wednesday afternoon, and police blame separatist militants.

Pol Maj Prathuang Suwanchatree, chief of Jakua police station in Raman district, said the attack occurred about 1.30pm as Abdulloh Awaeche, 38, an assistant chief of village No 3 of tambon Jakua, was eating noodles in a shop on the side of the  Raman-Kapho highway.

TWitnesses said wo men arrived on a motorcycle.  The pillion rider walked into the shop and shot Abdulloh twice  in the head with a handgun. He stole the victim's gun and then fled.
