Govt revenue collection falls short

Government tax revenues this year would be lower than the target of 1.63 trillion baht, Jitmanee Suwanpul, deputy director general of the Excise Department, said on Wednesday.

Revenue will be short by 10-20 billion baht as a result of a substantial decline in collected corporate income tax caused by the impact of great flood late last year, Mrs Jitmanee said.

The government’s tax incentive schemes, including the first-time home and first-car buyers schemes and tax breaks offered the Board of Investment were other reasons for the shortfall, she added.

Decrease of Corporate Tax was not due to the flood, it was because of the raising the Wage to 300 Baht as a trade off to not upset big corporations.

Also there are too many useless and fail tax incentive schemes that are eating into the tax revenue. Most are favoring the middle class in order to gain more support from different class groups.

Lower tax revenue collection, coupled with heavy borrowing and mounting debts for flood projects. Thailand is going down.

Oh I can see the incease in tax on beer coming. I see visa fees have increased. It was nice under the Dem government when visa fees were waived to promote tourism.

Of course if all the rich politicians and business people actually paid taxes based on their earnings, then the amount collected would be huge.
