Court: Taxi driver killed by troops

The Criminal Court on Monday made a crucial ruling, that government forces were responsible for the death of a red-shirt protester on May 15, 2010 during the height of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protests in April and May that year.

The prosecution had sought a ruling in its investigation of the death of Phan Khamkong, 43, a taxi driver from Yasothon province.

Basing its decision on testimony from witnesses and examination of other evidence, the court found that Phan was hit by bullets fired by soldiers who were shooting at a van driven by Samorn Maithong near an airport rail link station on Ratchaprarop road. The troops were ordered to go there position by the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES).

@abbub "The coup stole their democratic voice from the people."

Are you seriously believing the junk that Thaksin was spewing out during his call-in?

LEK D9: "I wonder whether the courts will ever admit that military officers were killed by the Redshirt militia?"

There was no "red shirt militia". This is a fabrication by those who needed excuses to attack them, just like the false claim on TV the red shirts were planning on overthrowing the monarchy.

Fabrications you are perpetuating for nobody other than yourself and a few die-hard military hangers-on. Or are you one of those that actually believe Suthep when he says Kafkaesque things like:

"I know Jatuporn had Seh Daen assassinated. I just do not have proof."
"The people ran into the soldeirs's bullets".

At last the court disclosed the truth on this red shirt protestor's death. Justice has been done. DSI will now chase the CRES mastermind behind that is held responsible for the April/May 2010 lethal crackdown.

    troops' gunfire ??? a precedent ???
As long as the real red perpetrators of April,May 2010 are hiding as MPs and in ministries. The red BOSS can stay in his sandbox in Dubai.

clearly it was a war zone. the military had put down razor wire on the road with a signs that said "live fire zone." anyone who went beyond the razor wire was risking their life. that being said, people who lived in the buildings there said the taxi driver was hit with stray bullets when the soldiers were firing on the van that was speeding towards them. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His death was tragic but unintentional.

MAX D7: "...mostly Thai people respect the rule of the law.....except Red/UDD and their guru Taksin"

GEOFFO: "why were there rioting reds when the peaceful option of participating in the democratic electoral process existed."

Max you seem to forget the September 2006 coup was anti-democratic; anti-constituional, and; illegal. Were it not, the military would not have forced the writers of the new constitution to include immunity from prosecution for the coup leaders. Makes sense. No?

GEFFO I think you are beating a dead horse. The coup stole their democratic voice from the people. And had AV resigned and called for immediate elections the bloodshed would not have occurred. His offer of peace was fake, as in the end he added "leaders risk being arrested and charged for terrorism and thereby also risk the death penalty". Fake peace offers; part of the text book strategy to justify violence against a fabricated evil enemy.

The red shirt leaders know well what Martial law and Emergency decree mean.
    from iPhone application.

The military did exactly what they should do, defending our democracy and monarchy. If it was not for them we would have a dictatorship regime ruled by a president.

Supermax dis#7, the Reds leaders and many of the followers are already in jail even before any of the PAD leaders are in. Who's not respecting the rule of law?
