Manchester United of the Premier League gave their fans a 1-0 victory over Galatasaray while defending champions Chelsea hung on for a 2-2 home draw against Juventus in Group G qualifying play in the Uefa Champions League Thursday morning.
In other matches, the Scottish side played to a scoreless draw with Portuguese powerhouse Benfica; Barcelona barely edged Spartak Moscow 3-2; Bayern Munich as expected defeated Valenia 2-1; CFR Cluj shut out Braga, also by 2-0; BATE Borisov had their way by 3-1 over French side Lille, and Shakhtar Donetsk won another 2-0 match, over FC Nordsjaelland.
Chelsea squandered a two-goal lead as they began the defence of their Champions League title with a draw against Juventus at Stamford Bridge.
