Azerbaijan signs Thai spikers

Seven members of the Thai women's volleyball team who won the AVC Cup have signed one-season contracts worth almost 20 million baht in total with an Azerbaijan club.

The contract signing ceremony was held on Friday at the Alexander Hotel in Bangkok.

The seven, who arrived home on Tuesday after beating China in the final on Sunday, were Nootsara Tomkom, Pleumjit Thinkaow, Amporn Hyapha, Malika Kanthong, Onuma Sittirak, Wilavan Apinyapong and Wanna Buakaew.

Just like to add my congratulations to the women. Onuma is some player, ranked in the top four or five in the world I believe in her position. And didn't she win the Most Valued Player award at this tournament?

Thai children are actually very talented volleyball players, the only thing they lack is height. Almost all schools teach volleyball and they are very competitive among schools. My friends child's high school team (international school) lost to a middle school thai team during friendly matches each year. I think this is one sport people don't realize how good thai students are.

I agree D 1. For once Thai children have sport idols to look up to and hopefully will follow in their foot steps.
