Ayutthaya 'ready' for run-off

Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Surasawadi insists 2.1 million rai of paddy fields in Ayutthaya are ready to absorb heavy rain-fed runoff from the Chao Phraya River over the next few days.

The chairman of the Water and Flood Management Commission made the comment while inspecting water levels in the Noi River, a Chao Phraya tributary, in Ayutthaya’s Sena district on Friday.The visit was part of a three-day trip to eight provinces to view flood conditions first-hand. Mr Plodprasop said he had checked the three vast paddy fields totalling 2.1 million rai that will serve as water retention zones in three districts -- Sena, Bang Ban and Pak Hai -- and found that farmers had already harvested their crops.This meant that run-off from the North could be diverted into the area without causing...

    So that's their solution for the flooding? Rent A Farmland? and when the water can't be drained when the farmers want to use it they will have to pay for more compensation. Does this government not use any brain?

    So what they are saying is that they have done diddly squit to prevent flooding in 12 months because correct me if I am wrong thy have been doing this for years.I suspect the other river bank breached may have had a human hand to help. Nothing will be done to alleviate the problem until mid 2013 they have played there card by publishing the timetable for the contracts so we should not put the boats away before 2014 or 2015.

    Sure, lucking out is easy to defend.
    Of course there's no flooding this year.
    Prepare for after the average government memory span which typically ends once investment in election has been recovered...
