Pheu Thai wants new truth panel

The Pheu Thai Party wants the government to set up a new fact-finding commission on the political violence and crackdown of 2010, deputy spokesman Jirayu Huangsap said on Saturday.

Mr Jirayu said relatives of the red-shirt protesters killed and injured in the April and May 2010 events were unhappy with the report released last week by the Truth for Reconciliation Committee (TRC).He said Pheu Thai MPs for more than 20 provinces in the North, Northeast and Central plains reported receiving complaints from red-shirts’ relatives that the TRC report was biased. They were unhappy that the report placed heavy emphasis on the actions of the shadowy "men in black" and their links to the red shirts' United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said Mr Jirayu. The TRC report has won support in other quarters for its conclusion that both the UDD and the Democrat-led government of the day had to accept responsibility for the way events played out.The relatives wanted to send as many as 10,000 representatives to Bangkok to ask the TRC and the National Human Rights Committee to produce facts on the 2010 events, said Mr...

Pheu Thai can't handle new truth panel!

jib - "brilliant - FYI, the report was only written in Thai - Europeans would not have written any of it. "

That;s not what I said and either you know it and are being deliberately disingenuous or you're just not very bright. Which is it? Neither are making you very appealing.

brilliant - FYI, the report was only written in Thai - Europeans would not have written any of it. The head of the commission himself is a well known anti-TS advocate.

"Its nine commissioners were given limited powers, and have been unable to get access to important official and forensic information. ...we are left with a report that tells us very little about why what started as a mass protest against the government of then Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva became so bloody. We don’t know who gave what orders to the soldiers who turned parts of Bangkok into a free-fire zone. We don’t know who was commanding the mysterious 'black-shirt' gunmen accused of bombings and arson attacks...it follows a pattern in Thai history, of crucial events left unexplained." - BBC, 17 September 2012

abbub - "I am appalled at the continuing "us versus them" mentality in particular of the red shirt haters. Solutions need common ground. Trust. Good will."

The UDD is premised on "us against them". Us against the "elite". Us against the Democrats. Us against anyone that doesn't agree with us. Us against the educated. The UDD leaders and PTP leaders and previous to that, Thaksin, have always tried to make it class warfare.
UDD gets back what it gives.

abbub - please, please, please point out my "lies", please? I stated a fact - there were international participants on the TRCT. I then ask whether PTP would allow international participants.
Here's where reds keep making a mistake, you make the wrong assumption that because people are against reds/PTP that they must support PAD. Perhaps you wouldn't understand that being against one thing doesn't automatically mean you're for another.
In my other post, I stated a fact also - I've never seen Rossaya post on a story about the South. Ever. On the story about 6 people dying in another bomb attack, as of yesterday evening, there were 11 posts on that story and not one from a red shirt. Not one.
If you're going to accuse me of lying, please present FACTS to the contrary.

BRILLIANT D61 writes: " more neutral than PTP is proposing. would they allow neutral international participants?"

Talk about other people writing "lies"...

During the democrat's regime many commenters suggested outside observers, I included. Not only for the committee but even before the bloodshed. Almost all pro democrat/PAD/military commenters here scoffed at that and tried to ridicule them. I am 100% for outside observers and participants.

BRILL D62: "I've never once seen you comment on the deaths in the South. Not once. Never any reds. 'They' don't care." (more of "us" vs "them"

Again not true. I know I have many times written about the south, but from a perspective of trying to find solutions acceptable to all sides. I think what BRILLIANT means is people should should cry for the victims of the insurgents/terrorists but not those who are victims of the military.

I am appalled at the continuing "us versus them" mentality in particular of the red shirt haters. Solutions need common ground. Trust. Good will.

I've never once seen you comment on the deaths in the South. Not once. Never any reds. They don't care.

android. I was responding to jib's claim that every single member was pro-PAD and anti-Thaksin, which is in reality a lie. Under the circumstances, I think Abhisit did a decent job trying to keep the panel somewhat neutral and it appears that international watch groups agree for the most part. Certainly more neutral than PTP is proposing. would they allow neutral international participants?

    Missus d59:
Getting back to the subject. May I invite you to explain some…. “Voltaire” to your humble servant. As you point out you "know Voltaire" pretty well, Unfortunately as you have highlighted several times, and I confess, I am not well read. (a peasant in fact...really)

"Lastly, when the whole body of the Church should be sufficiently weakened and infidelity strong enough, the final blow (is) to be dealt by the sword of open, relentless persecution. A reign of terror (is) to be spread over the whole earth, and...continue while any Christian should be found obstinate enough to adhere to Christianity."
I only understand this in the original context of my post referring to "Adam Weishaupt" (problem, reaction, solution.)
(P.S. I would like to thank bkkbob for his understanding on the post.)
