Obama vows before UN to halt Iran bomb

President Barack Obama vowed Tuesday the United States would not permit Iran to arm itself with nuclear weapons, as the UN General Assembly heard appeals for an end to Syria's civil war.

Crises across the Middle East dominated the first day of the annual UN summit, where Western leaders sought to increase pressure on Damascus and Iran to abandon confrontation and seek negotiated settlements.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the violence, speaking a day after his peace envoy had accused Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad's regime of resorting to "medieval forms of torture'' against his own citizens.

Kun Bill #10, not only the US, but also, all of the European countries, believed Saddam Hussein possessed WMD because he used it in what became known as Halapjah Poison Gas Attack in 1988, killing immediately nearly 5,000 Iraqi Kurds, and injured up to 10,000 more, many permanently. Prior to the war, we had an unconfirmed Intel reporting that Saddam had moved his WMD to Syria, which recently proven to be true, as the Syrian Dictator Assad declared he possesses a large stockpile of WMD and will use it against anyone who dare to invade Syria, in order to stop the current Syrian Civil War. So, think about it, how Assad had WMD without any WMD facility or program? Hope this helps!

I think USA learned it's lesson regarding WMD in Iraq. Obama has a retrained until proof. If Bush and gang was still in office we probably have ground troup in Iran by now or have nuked Iran already.

It is unbelievable that he could receive the Norwegian Peace Price! What were they thinking?

Khun BJ #4, if that is the case, can you explain why there has not been a single major terrorist attack on US's soil since the 9/11 Attack, while the Deep South has been attacked over and over repeatedly, with the death toll now far exceeding that of the 9/11 Attack? The same with the UK and Spain. And if we factor it the population sizes, Thailand's losses were much worse, and worsening by the day.

It is useless to respond to spicemann, he has been explained but coshes to pretend he does not hear. Who would pick a fight with a country which possesses over 400 nukes with one nuke? Iran does not bomb other countries, Israel does. Have a look here spicemann, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_Nations_resolutions_concerning_Israel

The fear factor is used everywhere in the world as an excuse for military budgets/violence and of course to reign in voters at elections and that is also true in the US. Threat of elusive WMD's is one of many examples, terrorism is another, Home Land Security is now a big spender...US more secure ?, Doubt it, if the terrorists want to strike they will get away with it, why ? Because they will throw in their own lives in the process and that is something we just cannot grasp and it difficult to defend against.

Khun Pointoffew #1, if your country is sitting on the second-largest reserve of energy (oil), will you go through all kinds of troubles, including dealing with highly toxic nuclear waste, in order to achieve nuclear power? Iran can also spend much, much less money to buy commercially available, non-weapon grade (5% pure) nuclear fuel to feed its nuclear power plant. My point is there is absolutely no reason why Iran must spend enormous amount of money for its controversial nuclear enrichment program, which can enrich nuclear fuel to over 90% pure (weapon-grade), which can only be used to form nuclear warhead. If you were Israel PM, what would you do?

Khun Pointoffew #1, if poor countries like Pakistan and N Korea can build nuclear weapon, an oil-rich Iran has no problems whatsoever in doing so. Whatever expertise or components Iran needs, it just buy it, especially, from the willing Russian arms suppliers. About Obama, forget about what he said but watch what he does!
