Couple shot, wounded in Pattani

A man and his wife were shot and seriously wounded while returning home from tapping rubber in Pattani's Kapho district on Sunday morning.

Pol Col Montree Khongwatmai, the Kapho police chief, said the incident occurred at about 8pm on a rural road in tambon Karubi.

While Somchit Sawangmek, 42, and his wife Kongsri Namnong-o, 46, were returning to their village from a rubber plantation on a motorcycle, they were followed by two men on another motorcycle. The two men opened fire at them with handguns, wounding both of them seriously.

This is a new violent act as of today Sunday Oct. 30; not the two that occurred yesterday within 24 hours of each other. Since the Thai government does not care about the Thai citizens in the south (as displayed by years of mistakes and inaction) and the military’s incompetent response of sending poorly equipped and trained soldiers who have shown no successes, or captures, then there is no deterrent to cease the violence. In fact the government’s non-response and ignoring of each new killing and bombings will most certainly embolden the perpetrators to soon shift to targets that will get the governments attention e.g. Phuket and Bangkok. Not the least bit far-fetched and a government office or heavily populated tourist area ala Kuta Beach, Bali seems like a no-brainer. Here’s a serious tip to the Thai government; it’s time to get serious!
