Graft threatens national bankruptcy

Democrat Party list MP Ong-art Klampaibul says eight of the government's programmes are riddled with corruption and warns if it completes its four-year term, the country will end up being in so much debt it will be at risk of becoming bankrupt.

He said if the Pheu Thai-led administration lasted its four-year term, it would leave the country heavily in debt and perilously close to bankruptcy.

So i take it that no one is prepared to deffend the Dems current allegation that all these policies are tainted with irregularities , shouldn`t be that hard seeing as people accept it as part of Thai culture these days ?
For the benefit of all Thais and your own Kingdom , explain and deffend the policy , not "protect the party" , please , anyone ?

D28 : aussie , you need to understand the numbers , you are writing about the export growth which at some stage was projected to be 15%, believe it has been reduced to around 8% since then, the other percentages you are referring to is the projected GDP growth, a very different number, here the IMF predict 5%. Marc Faber 4-5% (over the next 20 years) and the latest government number I believe was in the same ballpark.

eric Dis#25 , i think AV`s 4% projection was fairly accurate concidering at the time the reds agenda and their much "respectful peaceful protest of the poor" , sadly one can`t say the same for the 15% projection of yinglucks ministery , as it seemed to be 100% red lies and shown to be nothing short of that !

@whatajoke , yes Marc Faber aka dr Doom is always worthwhile listening too, and since he is living here, invested here and prefers to have his funds in Thai banks because it is safer than in the big international banks then Thailand can not be such a bad place to be. However certainly agree that croyonism , nepotism and corruption has to be addressed in the society, it has been integrated into the Thai society over generations and will not go away from day to day, it will require a lot of hard work and some brave people.

ziamitude, The democrat party spent a lot of time fighting, not sure exactly what, corruption maybe. I seem to recall military budgets being a high priority under the previous government.

It’s great that a 350 billion baht water management scheme is underway, no point blaming previous governments for failing to do anything or bickering about corruption. The water management problem has to be tackled, better late than never.

Dis#18, Marc also forecast that soft commodities will be the gold of the future and farmers will be the new rich. Never happen. In his article, he also forecast Thailand to grow at least 4% forward even with the turmoil of the external environment. That's impressive outlook by any economist. But I will agreed with him that Thailand potential will never be achieved with crony business relationship. This has been the bane of Thailand for many past years. Unless state run corporation, police, military and judiciary are not influence and chosen by government, Thailand economy will continue to be under achiever.

Demo had their cherry picking but is picking sour grapes this time with complain. None is capable or have the credential to paint themselves with higher moral ground.

@peterd #20: Yes, you are right, the brainwashing has no limits and you seem to be a good example. Next thing you tell us that people spontaneously gathered around Central World and they spontaneously all decided to buy some red shirts to show their unity and obvioulsy all of them were only peacefully demonstrating for democracy. Yes, people are brainwashed if they believe these lies.

Dont make the mistake of thinking PT want Thailand to be successful with out Thaksin .If it was there would be no reason for everyone to bend over backwards for him .
