A teacher was shot dead in a drive-by shooting by suspected insurgents in Narathiwat's Rangae district on Monday evening, police said.

Police identified him as Komsan Chomyong, 40, a Prathom 6 (grade 6) teacher at Ban Bor Ngor elementary school. He was found on the Chanae-Bor Ngor Road in tambon Bor Ngor.

Komsan, who was a former border police patrol officer who carried a 9mm pistol, was travelling on his motorcycle along the Chanae-Bor Ngor Road at 4pm when a gunman riding pillion on another motorcycle fired at him seven times with a 9mm handgun.

Thailand must be the only country in the world where former border police patrol officer becomes school teacher and carries a 9mm pistol.

Thailand must be the only country in the world where school teachers are targeted in such a cowardly fashion. Drive-by ambush shootings, how low can you go?
