British teacher agrees to extradition

A married British teacher who fled with a 15-year-old schoolgirl to France agreed Tuesday to be extradited, as his lawyer said the arrested fugitive wanted his ``full story'' to emerge.

Asked if he was ready to be handed over to British judicial authorities for questioning, 30-year-old Jeremy Forrest, who was dressed in a checked shirt and jeans, told a court in Bordeaux: "Yes.''

During the 20-minute hearing, he gave one-word affirmatives to questions relating to his identity and whether he accepted a European arrest warrant.

15 is way too young to "consent" to anything. I find it backwards that all across the world the age of consent is below 18. You either improve education and preparation to ensure 15 year olds are truly "young adults" and prepared for the consequences of their actions or you raise the age of consent. And if the age of consent was 18, there'd be no question marks over this case.

What his lawyer calls "the full story" should be quite amusing. An adult teacher running away with a 15 year old is quite difficult to justify.

Kidnapping I think is a bit of an exaggeration ... I think it is time to look at when a minor is a minor, times have changed.

    @ Discussion 1 (bluebottle):

Under international criminal law the French prosecutors did the right thing.

They had the choice to extradite him or to prosecute him themselves, but not to let him escape.

bluebottle, discussion 1, it would be simple, if only other countries recognised the Thai warrant. Whether we like it or not, whether we agree or not, as you probably know, most countries don't have that "will", because they don't recognise the Thai warrant, while allowing T. to enter their territory and they will not extradite him. Interpol refused the case as well. That's why T. is virtually a free man, outside Thailand, that is.

Please take not how cooperation between countries works it is called EXTRADITION.I do hope those in charge of attempting to arrest Mr T take note.IT is simple but only if you have the will.
