Japan interested in Dawei port

Japan has reaffirmed its keen interest injoining Myanmar and Thailand in the investment and development of the Dawei deep sea port, Industry Minister Pongsvas Svasti said on Thursday.

MR Pongsvas said the Japanese government and private sector have confirmed their commitment to joint cooperation in the project with Thailand and Myanmar.

Details of the plans, including investment sums, will become clearer in November once the joint Thai-Myanmar working committee takes shape, he said.

Of course Japan will be interested, if the infrastructure including train cargo is properly developed then this could turn out to be logistical hub that will lower the regions transport cost for both import and export from India, Africa and Europe, wouldn't be surprised if China started to cheer too. Hope that Thailand can stay in as a major beneficiary and partner in the project.
