Plodprasop blasts BMA over sandbags

Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Surasawadi said on Monday he would set up a committee to investigate the Bangkok city administration for stuffing sandbags into the drainage system on Srinakarin Road in disobedience of the instructions of the Water and Flood Management Commission (WFMC).

Mr Plodprasop, as WFMC chairman, said he had three questions for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to answer:

1. What kind of water management is stuffing sandbags in the drains?
2. Who ordered  BMA workers to put sandbags in the sewers, and why this was done while storms were on the way?
3. Where else has the BMA stuffed sandbags in the drains?

@Disc 14 - Many people stuff the drains to block flow of water last year. This is because the water volume was so much that water started to come out of the drains! I hope that is what the BMA is doing, if not they shouldn't be blocking the drains YET as water is not flowing out of the city fast enough now.

The BMA intentionally stuffed the drains with sandbags to block the flow of water?! Were they also doing this in 2011?

The Science and Technology Minister's three questions all seem reasonable to me. I also agree with the assessment that the BMA's initial explanation was not credible. Governor Sukhumbhand needs to elaborate on his comment about sandbags stuffed in the drains on Srinakarin Road not affecting the drainage capacity in that area. Who knows there may be a good explanation but on the surface it doesn't make sense.

bangkokbob #9 - You are certainly among those who could not care about the rule of law. Your accusations is based on suppositions, and surmises and essentially unfounded.

What BMA does with stuffing the sandbags makes sense, everyone was doing that last year if you haven't noticed. The big question is whether those sandbags were from last year or this year. The other big question is that if those sandbags are currently effecting the drainage of water.

@D4: Disobeying the Water and Flood Management Commission of this corrupt and incompetent government is the duty of every sensible and patriotic Thai.

If we could just tax the citizens maybe 50 or 60 million baht, we could afford a committee to oversee the committee that investigates the other administration to make sure the money is getting to the right pockets and that the committee with the least amount of money gets the lionshare of the blame.

    or...

You could just give me a couple mill and I'll take my flat bed truck and a couple of guys down there and we can move those sandbags out of the drains for you.
