England defeated San Marino 5-0 and Germany had an equally easy time in defeating Ireland 6-1 among many World Cup 2014 qualifiers early Saturday (Thailand time).
Wayne Rooney became the fifth highest scorer of all-time with his second goal in the England victory at Wembley. Danny Welbeck also netted twice and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got the fifth goal.
England moved to the top of Group H, totally dominating the Number 206 team in the world. They look ahead to Poland away on Tuesday.
Giovanni Trapattoni's Ireland side lost their first home match in two years as doubles from Marco Reus and Toni Kroos and further goals from Mesut Ozil and Miroslav Klose sealed an emphatic 6-1 win for the Germans.
Germany dominated, and did not concede the Irish goal until the 90th minute. It did not dampen the German spirits as they won their third Group C match in three outings.
Wales snatched a 2-1 win against Scotland thanks to a late Gareth Bale penalty and a second wonderstrike from the winger, after James Morrison had put the visitors ahead in the first half of their qualifier.
The Spurs' midfielder was on song throughout, and earned a penalty despite appearing to clip his own heels and go down, but stayed calm to convert from the spot before unleashing a devilish strike into the top corner.
