Iraq buys Thai rice

Iraq bought 100,000 metric tonnes of rice from Thailand, according to Iraq's Trade Ministry.

The purchase followed a tender for 30,000 tonnes of rice that closed on Oct 7, the ministry said in a statement.

Olam International will supply 70,000 tonnes of Thai rice, and Louis Dreyfus will supply the remaining 30,000 tonnes, it said.

Selling price to Iraq can be disclosed.

And how much did they pay for the privilege of purchasing this rice? Oh, sorry that's a secret until the end of 2013 when the PM will announce the results of the rice pledging program.

So much for G to G rice sales. This 100K tonnes was bought by middlemen who of course make their own profit. Iraq would not pay above market price, so how much did Thai government make/lose on the deal?
