Dems face libel suit for MIB remarks

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has instructed his lawyers and the Pheu Thai Party's legal team to bring a defamation lawsuit against Abhisit Vejjajiva and other leading Democrat Party members for their remarks about the role of the "men in black" in the United Front for Democrat against Dictatorship's (UDD) violent protests in 2010.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said Mr Abhisit, deputy party leader Korn Chatikavanij, Surat Thani MP Suthep Thaugsuban, Songkhla MP Sirichok Sopha and Rayong MP Sathit Pitutecha would be sued.

These leading members of the Democrat Party had accused Thaksin of being behind the men in black, he said.

    soltair (D44):
Apologies for the numbering confusion, either my fault or perhaps an editing slip by the BP. Anyway, whilst I respect your political views (although most certainly not your description of Churchill as a war criminal) I fail to see how your dream can become reality - do you really believe that the Thai people will meekly comply with the establishment of the sort of political system you advocate? I don't think do.

As for the country being in a worse condition, well, in the 1950's and 1960's we had corrupt military dictatorships, in 1973 we had massive labour and student unrest, with numerous strikes and demonstrations, then the events of 1976 and the communist insurgency. Let's keep things in perspective.

Lazarisbk # 45, I referred to this event, ordered by Churchill: ...... "On the evening of February 13, 1945, an orgy of genocide and barbarism began against a defenseless German city, one of the greatest cultural centers of northern Europe. Within less than 14 hours not only was it reduced to flaming ruins, but an estimated one-third of its inhabitants, possibly as many as a half a million, had perished in what was the worst single event massacre of all time.". "More people died there in the firestorm, in that one big flame, than died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined.". I do read more than the prescribed history we were taught at school.

soltair. Discussion 41 : this is just my personal opinion.

Dresden doesn't even come close to the feat achieved by Hitler, we know it as the "Holocaust by bullets"

FROM 1941 TO 1944, 1.5 MILLION JEWS WERE EXECUTED AND BURIED IN MASS GRAVES IN VILLAGES ACROSS THE UKRAINE, BELARUS, AND RUSSIA.

Robingrand #31 referring to Soltair # 32?? on a comment re-sent as #41. "are advocating is an impossible dream. Better to grapple with the problems of the imperfect present than seek a return to an imagined golden age." I think this "democracy" is a proven impossible dream, be honest, look around, this country is in a bigger mess than ever seen before, I am living here close to four decades, this is very scary what happens nowadays. I don't think we return but rather advance when we take our rose coloured glasses of and be honest for a change and realise that the imperfect present is created by following a very imperfect system for this day and age in this country.

jib- Please look up the definition of mercenary. That's exactly what the MIB appear to be. And again, you've made it abundantly clear you don't believe the report so why quote it? Because you are intellectually dishonest.

I do understand the point you were making about the background of voters, but in suggesting that Thailand become less democratic you are looking backwards, not forward. You are, I think, also over simplifying the background of Democrat and PT supporters: both parties have support from across the social spectrum.

Soltair(D32): I have no intention to "shoot the messenger" y

Robingrant #23, "The votes of the "educated" and "Business owners" do not carry more weight than those from a less privileged background." ....... and this is exactly what is wrong with democracy and I tend to support Socrates who said "The principal fault of democracy is that it does not require proof of special knowledge in its leaders, that it surrenders the direction of the people’s destinies to men without adequate experience in government, and that on the question of the morality of justice of a policy it treated the opinions of all citizens as equal in value."....... When all are educated to a similar level democracy may work (as in the West) but we can see around us that blindly following the one man one vote opens the door of voter manipulation through buying. In order to "see" and understand the direction a country should go as opposed to simplistic short term personal gain we need education. There is too much at stake and please don't adhere to Churchill (the Dresden war criminal) explanation about what democracy is. Someone mentioned before for Thailand to go back to its benevolent absolute monarchy until such time the general population is educated (like in the West) before experimenting with democracy again. To understand and accept this one has to be totally honest and leave emotions out of it. Oh yea, before shooting the messenger, this is just my personal opinion.

To who profits the crime. Not to the Reds, surely to those sending the soldiers. The proof, they affirm everytime/where that they sent because the MIB. If no have this poor excuse, they cannot explain why the fired the Thai people. And, stop to talk for nothing, Hundred of snipers were around. They never shot one of this black men. It's a joke. We saw only unarmed people hurted or killed. The dems maybe represent the educated owner business but certainly not the Thai people. And it's good for Thailand. They have to show their evidences in justice and maybe give the adress of the MIB, i feel that they know. Mister Bob, big mistake to confound arrogance ed and scornfulness of the Thai people with education.

jib- they're called mercenaries. And you have made it clear you don't believe the TRCT report anyway.
Funny how you pick and choose things to say.
