Dems face libel suit for MIB remarks

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has instructed his lawyers and the Pheu Thai Party's legal team to bring a defamation lawsuit against Abhisit Vejjajiva and other leading Democrat Party members for their remarks about the role of the "men in black" in the United Front for Democrat against Dictatorship's (UDD) violent protests in 2010.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said Mr Abhisit, deputy party leader Korn Chatikavanij, Surat Thani MP Suthep Thaugsuban, Songkhla MP Sirichok Sopha and Rayong MP Sathit Pitutecha would be sued.

These leading members of the Democrat Party had accused Thaksin of being behind the men in black, he said.

    Discussion 21 Bobby 2000. So you think that the men in black played only a minor role in the protests. I suggest you read about the death of Col Romkalo and how that set the whole protest into a violent spiral.

    musashi diss 9 av was given leave of his obligation as he was requested to be a lectruer and there,s no ongoing case,so if the previous were a puppet government,what is this regime ? l think when the truth report came out,as it turned out it was fair and non political .in the report it stated there were men in black on the streets,we need to known who they are,and full investigateion,the fugitive might have helped to move this along quicker,l think he has alot of sleepless nights ahead

    "Lawyers and lawsuits"

    More bad new for the taxpayers since the corruption fees will go even higher to pay the lawyers, etc etc.

    Fact is stranger than fiction.

    @bobby2000 'The so-called MIB only played a minor role in the 2010 crackdown'.

    Facts ? Minor role ? Who fired first with war weapons at Pan Fah ? Who killed soldiers and civilians with war weapons ? How would the government of wherever you come from have reacted ? With a lot more force no doubt. Please do not use the London riots as an example : no comparison at all.

    englishbob(D16):

    "Don't let the facts get in the way of another Red Rant".It might be a good idea to follow your own advice when it comes to facts. The Democrats were supported by 26.5% of the electorate in the 2011 election, based on a 75% turnout. Those that didn't vote ruled themselves out of the democratic process, and you can't mobilise them to support your arguements.

    And, as I am sure you would agree, in a democracy all votes are of equal worth. The votes of the "educated" and "Business owners" do not carry more weight than those from a less privileged background.

    'He said if the Democrats continued to stage more rallies of this kind, they would only sow seeds of hatred and division among the people.'

    If reds do the same and spout libel, it's OK though.

    The Democrats don't have any proof to back up their accusations. The so-called MIB only played a minor role in the 2010 crackdown. The Democrats are using them to divert attention from the real issues, namely the army's usage of excessive force. All independent report clearly state this, unfortunately a lot of people on this forum have already made up their mind about what happened and do not care about facts.

    Bring it on Thaksin, please; your connection to Sah Daeng is well documented. Any bets the case is not filed ?
