The auction of the 3G licences began in Bangkok this morning, with chief executives of Thailand's three major mobile operators compete for shares of the 45 MHz of bandwidth on the 2.1-gigahertz band.
There are three qualified bidders: Advanced Wireless Network, a subsidiary of Advanced Info Service (AIS); DTAC Network, a subsidiary of Total Access Communication (DTAC); and Real Future, a part of True Corporation.
AIS vice chairman Somprasong Boonyachai, DTAC's CEO Jon Eddy Abdullah and True's CEO Suphachai Chearavanont took turns to draw for bidding rooms. The result was that AIS has the 6th floor, DTAC the 4th floor and True the 3rd floor. The 5th floor is reserved as supplementary room.
