Police post reply to 'Evil Krabi' video

KRABI - Police in Krabi have uploaded a video clip "The Truth from Krabi" to YouTube to explain the legal process in connection with the sexual assault of a Dutch tourist by a Thai tour guide and to counter the claim by the victim's father that authorities allowed "easy" bail for the suspect.

In the four-and-a-half minute clip, with no English subtitles, police say Krabi’s tourism sector had been hit hard by the "Evil Man from Krabi" clip posted on the internet last month by the father of the 19-year-old model.

According to the father, the tour guide was able to avoid police for about a month and he was allowed "easy" bail by the authorities after being captured. He also details other violent incidents in the in Ao Nang area involving tourists that he claims were covered up by the authorities.

It baffles my mind every time I see a Thais reaction to its own failing judicieel system. How you stick up with corrupted politicians, police officers and a society where the amount of money depicts how much rights you have.

Disc. 45. Many of the police won't even listen to a 'farang' if he/she speaks Thai either.
Disc. 40. Yes, noticeable isn't it. Penang. 'Welcome to Malaysia and have a nice holiday' Bangkok. 'Grunt'. With a wave of the arm.

This article is about a rape charge, not about a “fugitive”.

This video is not for foreigners, the police don’t care about them at all, however I don’t believe they can convince Thai people either everyone knows what it is all about.

D27 this man has admitted committing the crime.

D23: Good points. You might remember the PM's response when challenged about the extra-judicial killings happening as a direct consequence of his "war on drugs: "The Thai Police can do nothing wrong under the sun". Guess who?

I didn't realise until recently that he was actually quoting from a former dictator of the 60's.

D41 , you make an interesting point saying suspects here are innocent until prosecutors prove their guilt. From earlier law articles in BP and anecdotal reports the opposite is true most of the time.

I recall a Swiss TV journalist arrested on arrival because a civilian had laid a libel charge. The journalist did not get bail for days. I think "justice" is applied arbitrarily here.

The Krabi guide knew he would be caught. The fact he hung around shows he was not afraid. History tells us he has done this before and will get progressively more violent until committing murder.

The Truth of Ao Nang !
Bars are not closing 01 according to the law. Nobody have to wear helmet to drive a motorbike. There are "black" taxis(no licence)everywhere on the main road. Parking is a big mess, police doesn´t seem to care , more busy drinking coffee ;-(

Anybody believe in Krabi Police when they post a video ??

@D41: Not all suspects are granted bail in developed countries. Bail is sometimes denied if a judge believes the suspect is a fight risk, or a danger to others.

Everyone can understand the father's anger. But I think the issue with the police video is that it shows the victim's identity, doesn't convey any sympathy for her, and by showing a video grab of her walking with her alleged attacker, seems to suggest that the police agree with the Minister of Tourism that 'because she had dinner with him and accepted a ride home, it could not have been rape.'

It is a shameful video and a failure in image improvement.

Yes it is really ridiculous that the Thai police has uploaded the clips in youtube in Thai language. Why don't they do it in Int'l language.
