Reds to hold counter rally in Udon

Udon Thani-based red-shirt leader Kwanchai Praipana Sunday announced a mass rally at Thung Si Muang in front of the provincial hall in a show of force against the anti-government Pitak Siam’s rally on Nov 24, the Thai Rath website reported.

The rally, which will take place on Friday -- one day before the Pitak Siam gathering -- was expected to draw about 50,000 supporters of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) and the Pheu Thai Party from northeastern provinces, Mr Kwanchai said.

He said UDD leaders and core supporters from Bangkok had accepted his invitation to attend the rally. They include Jatuporn Prompan and two former members of the defunct Thai Rak Thai Party -- one of the ruling Pheu Thai Party's two previous incarnations -- Adisorn Piangket and Sutin Klungsang, among others.

Yikes. Rally in front of the town halls. Didn't they burn a few of them down. Better get the fire brigade on standby.

Mr Kwanchai accused Pitak Siam of hiring residents from 11 provinces in the South to join the Nov 24 rally for 1,500 baht each. An old political party and the ammart (elite) were also behind the group’s protest, he added.

Translation: "We are very jealous, we only got 500Bt p/day.."

D14: Red-shirt rallies (both 2009 and 2010, where in Feb/Mar, which is the dry/no-work season for many in the North/East.
Also, the Multi-colored rallies where only 1 day affairs.... Ah yes, they never disrupted other people who tried to make a living. They actually understood their democratic rights...

Dis 2 - Water management policy must have worked. I don't see BKK under water this year. Oh my mistake, that's because AV isn't in charge! Nothing to due with current government policy.

Englishbob 9: I also attended several of the rallies. The multi-shirt rallies were only ever less than 1 day affairs. Why did they need to be compensated? The reds were often giving up work to support their cause. How were they supposed to survive without any assistance? When watching the red rally I was always astonished by the huge amount of money donated by their supporters.Every hour they would read out a list of pledgers who were donating money for the funding of the rally. THe Dems accused but dismally failed to find any evidence that Thaksin funded the protests, even after freezing the bank accounts of near 100 suspected abettors.

Discussion 5 : If would be a bit educated and open to the world you would know that there are thousands of example of dictatorship regimes who were backed by people who considered themselves as "educated" because they were part of higher or upper middle class. Almost all South American military dictatorship was backed by this category of people, can give more examples easily. It is for sure a sign of pretentiousness but CERTAINLY NOT a sign of any moral qualities.
And all of that is even more true in Thailand where "educated" doesn't mean you have propensity to study but depends of how wealthy enough you are to go to good schools.

That is the best idea from the red shirts. The farther they hold their rally from Pitak Siam the better chance to keep peace in the country.

    discussion 2.

    I answer you every time.
Success represents not an absolute but the opinion of the beholder and what you and I consider success is irrelevant because we don't have a vote. The polls show that Thai voters are "very satisfied" with 4 policies. 1. Drug suppression. 2. Tourism promotion. 3. Increased pensions.
    4. Increased minimum wages.
They are "moderately satisfied" with a long list of others from reducing corporation tax to solving energy prices.
The only 3 policies they are dissatisfied with are solving the southern problem, solving the constitutional problems and creating unity.
