Reds to hold counter rally in Udon

Udon Thani-based red-shirt leader Kwanchai Praipana Sunday announced a mass rally at Thung Si Muang in front of the provincial hall in a show of force against the anti-government Pitak Siam’s rally on Nov 24, the Thai Rath website reported.

The rally, which will take place on Friday -- one day before the Pitak Siam gathering -- was expected to draw about 50,000 supporters of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) and the Pheu Thai Party from northeastern provinces, Mr Kwanchai said.

He said UDD leaders and core supporters from Bangkok had accepted his invitation to attend the rally. They include Jatuporn Prompan and two former members of the defunct Thai Rak Thai Party -- one of the ruling Pheu Thai Party's two previous incarnations -- Adisorn Piangket and Sutin Klungsang, among others.

I too know people who were paid a few hundred baht plus transport and food to attend UDD rallies but that doesn't mean that many of them wouldn't have gone anyway, some would, some wouldn't.

If you earn less than B10,000 a month you simply cannot afford to take the time off without some form of compensation.

Disc8 Johnb There were also payments of between 300-500 baht a day - very public. There is an excruciatingly embarrassing video of Thaksin telling supporters that soon there would be 'no need to wait for 500 baht' and then stuttering as he realises his gaffe.

I attended all the coloured rallies. Many Reds admitted they got money to me. And when the Reds drove round taunting and insulting the multi-shirts (naturally), the multi-shirts turned their backs and sang "Love the country, no need to get paid."

Discussion 1; The reds openly published payments given for transport to the rally. There were 2 rates; 1 for just travelling down & another if you brought a vehicle & brought other protesters. Why is that 'a joke' as you claim?

Yingluck government won the fair transparent election by a landslide, still remain just as popular with the vast majority of the electorate and would win again if election was called tomorrow. Thailand is moving forward both internally and internationally with good policies that benefit all thais not only the rich elite.

Ho hum, where do I pick up my 10 baht for predicting yesterday that today Kwanchai would pop up. He has been quiet for a couple of weeks and TS would have been ringing everyone last night to get someone to do something because no one is listening to himmmm !!! arggg.

TS must be going bananas. His Sister is in the spotlight and did a good job speaking tonight and there is nothing TS can do to show he is the man. He cannot even go to Cambodia and just hang around. Life is tough when you are a superhero who knows everything and no one listens.

Fantastic, finally a tiny trickle of wisdom, hold your rallies in Udon where you hence from. Rallying in BKK had unwanted disastrous consequences. See what happen if you invade local hospitals and start burning local shopping malls.

Let them hold ALL their rallies in Udon. At least we'll be able to keep the country running from here.

"Thailand under the leadership of the Yingluck Shinawatra government is moving well forward" I challenge any Red Shirt to name a single successful PT policy. Sixteen months and counting... Not one of you has dared to answer.

"Mr Kwanchai accused Pitak Siam of hiring residents from 11 provinces in the South to join the Nov 24 rally for 1,500 baht each."
What a joke especially from the red shirts who were caught on camera giving money to people to attend the rally...then they said it was only to cover the transport.
