Court accepts case against Varathep

The Constitution Court has decided to accept for consideration a petition for it to consider whether Varathep Rattanakown is qualified for a cabinet post, court spokesman Pimol Thampitakpong said.

The petition was filed by 24 senators who said Mr Varathep, who was appointed Prime Minister's Office Minister in the last cabinet reshuffle, might not be qualified for the post because he was sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for two years, by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions.

The court on Sept 30, 2010 found Mr Varathep guilty of malfeasance over the launch of the two- and three-digit lottery operation while serving as deputy finance minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra administration.

"In another development, the Constitution Court on Wednesday will consider three petitions filed by former senator Ruangkrai Leekijwattana, Pheu Thai member Singthong Buachum and Nuengdin Wimuttinant, lawyer of the Justice-Loving Group, for it to order Gen Boonlert Kaewprasit to cancel the planned rally of the Pitak Siam group on Nov 24......"

Let us see whether the Constitution Court will respond to the above three petitions before or after 24 November. If it responds before the 24 Nov rally, we will take note. If it responds after the rally, we will also take note.

Where else and why for Heaven's sake does it take a PETITION to have the judiciary enforce a law.
