Internet predators backmail Thai women

At least 100 Thai women have been cheated out of a total of more than 100 million baht through Facebook accounts run by conmen offering marriage and wanting explicit photographs they then used to blackmail them, police said on Friday.

Two Trang women filed a complaint with the police, reporting that they have been scammed into transferring almost 100,000 baht to a gang of blackmailers. There were many other victims who were too ashamed to come forward, they told police.

The gang members posed as attractive looking foreign males and approached them via their Facebook accounts. The first woman said a man named "Wyne Smith" had promised to marry her, while another woman had unknowingly sent "compromising" photos of herself to "Alex Chris".

I feel sympathy for the decent women who have lost here, however i must agree to a point with some of the above comments.
Decent Thai women are dragged down massively by the girls whose sole source of income is made by bleeding certain foreign nationals dry and moving on as soon as the money is gone.
It is a shame, but at the same time a lot of these sites do give warnings about money transfers etc, if you ignore them then don't be surprised when things go wrong,
    A sad story all round

I personally know of a woman who told four different foreigners she had had a baby with them. She did, but all of the four believed it was his. She chose her targets well and lived in a luxurious high rise, donning her poor girl clothes whenever one managed to visit the country to see her.

Suspicious, one guy, a lawyer finally caught on. Her evasiveness at times made him suspicious. He hired a private detective whom it took two weeks to figure out the scam. She had been taking in about 200,000 a month for two years.

BTW 100 women for 100 million baht makes 1 million Baht each. The numbers in the article seem off.

Thai and foreigners, do you never know yet that one cannot harvest from where you did not plant?
for your plant of wickedness and fraud to others you will receive in reward.

What about Thai women who regularly use dating sites to scam foreign men? On the TV show, "Scam City Bangkok", a Thai woman freely admitted scamming several foreign men and earning in excess of 150,000 Baht/month.

Where's the Thai police bunko squad on those types of incidents?

Kudos to the police for timely and effective action
