A group of Indonesian high school students is under investigation after allegedly organising a savings scheme and lottery to pay for the services of prostitutes.
Seven high school students in Situbondo, East Java, allegedly formed an “arisan” so that they could afford to pay for commercial sex workers.
Arisan is a widespread practice in Indonesia. Members contribute a certain amount of money at regular meetings, with a draw at each meeting deciding a winner, who takes home all the money. Winners can only win once.
