310,000 young Thais are hyperactive

BANGKOK - About 310,000 Thai youngsters have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), many of them, because their mothers had been smoking and drinking while they were pregnant, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Deputy Public Health Minister Cholanan Srikaew said on Monday that the hyperactive children are mostly boys. They cannot concentrate for long and are rash and unruly.

    Well this is a new one, smoking and drinking during pregnancy was supposed to result in smaller birth weights. American studies overwhelming showed diet, in the form of fast food, chemical laden snacks and beverages lead to ADD.

    By the way, women in the West smoked and drank during pregnancy for many years before the medics came out with THEIR view on it's detriment to the feotus. Never heard of ADD then.
