Reds rally for charter change (pix)

Hundreds of red-shirt supporters on Monday paraded from the Democracy Monument to the head office of the Chartthaipattana Party, calling on it to join the Pheu Thai Party's campaign to amend the constitution.

The red-shirts, led by core members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship UDD including Payap Panket, Darunee Kritboonyalai, Prasang Mongkolsiri and Suthachai Yimpraset, later went to the Pheu Thai Party's headquarters, reports said.

They submitted a letter calling on the senior government party to expedite the third and final reading of the constitution amendment bill, tentatively scheduled for February next year.

Disc.13. Some very reasonable questions (I'll ignore the bit about Pitak Siam, as it is not helpful). What is wrong with 2007 constitution? In short it reinstates unelected Senators and gives too much power to Constitution Court. The vote of the people should be loudest in a democracy, so any institution that can annul the majority vote by disbanding a political party for relatively trivial matters is a bad thing. So by reducing the power of the Constitution Court, it would strengthen the voice of all Thais (as expressed thru the ballot box). I would say more, but there's a limit to how much you can put in replies here.

Red Shirts, please point out to us (who don't wear red) what is wrong with the current constitution? Don't just say that it is not democratic. Does this government practice democracy by blocking unarmed Pitak Siam people from joining the rally on 24-11-12? Can you, red shirts tell me how the new charter will benefit all Thais?

In many pictures the reds always have new looking red clothes – including hats, gloves, red this and red that. I wonder if there is somewhere a red-shirt supply chain. Or maybe they make them in their red villages. Otherwise I would start to think that maybe someone supplies these red clothes maybe together with some allowance to these not so spontaneous demonstrators.

D2 You must be a newcomer and missed the war on drugs (2500) , Tak Bai (70) ,2009 assignation attempt on AV by red shirts (permanent disability to his secretary). The list is long.

You have missed the point about his behavior, he was given permission to travel overseas with his wife when they were both convicted. His wife choose to come back and appealed, fought in the court and won.

TS ran, formed reds in 2008, involved in two attempted insurrections in 2009/2010, (91=20 Army,71 Red)

    Disc2 Farang22 - "it's not like he killed anyone"
There are 2500 families of untried suspects that would disagree with you.
And a further 55 families in Krue Seh.
And a further 85 families in Tak Bai.

While Abhisit's 'crimes' happened during two extremely violent incidents in chaotic circumstances while security forces were fighting armed men, the vast majority of Thaksin's victims were executed during a long drawn out period. Thaksin had plenty of opportunity to stop the slaughter... But he chose not to.
Care to explain why these deaths aren't important?

If you protest against the change of constitution, you will get tear gassed. If you protest for it, you get police protection. Not sure what is going on but wonder whether Thailand's new bed fellow Obama really knows what is happening in this country. Lady Clinton will not mind a bit, she is quitting early next year - probably become a consultant for Chevron and milk Thailand and Burma dry of it's oil resources. And our democratically elected government does not mind at all - after all this was one of the deals for giving Thaksin a visa.

"The reports said fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was expected to make a phone-in to his supporters at 9pm."

A few hundred supporters......sounds like the fugitive is cutting costs, otherwise he'd have a few thousand 'paid' supporters.
