Thailand 13th in illicit capital outflow

Crime, corruption and tax evasion costs Thailand an average of $6.43 billion (197 billion baht) per year, according to the authors of a report on illicit financial outflows in the developing world.

The kingdom ranks 13th in the world in a survey by Washington-based non-profit advocacy organisation, Global Financial Integrity (GFI), released this week.

China topped the list on Illicit Financial Flows from Developing Countries: 2001-2010, with Malaysia in third, the Philippines in sixth, Indonesia in ninth and Brunei 20th.

Franklin is oh so correct. Thailand has become the "hub" for transporting drugs, corruption,
lowest educational scores, ( of all S.E.Asian nations), in Math, Science, and English. Agricultural production far below others and constant, costly, impractical "blue sky" projects - Hi speed rail-dam-children's tablets-rice-defensive/offensive military weapons. I find it almost impossible to believe that Govt. officials don't/won't read and act on all the negative, global reports, from internationally recognized agencies, and many of their own educators warnings about the deterioration of the country.

There has always been boastful talk from the government that Thailand would be the "hub" of this and the “hub" of that. Well, it's becoming the hub of foul-up and flubs.

Thirteenth not so bad ? but, 143 countries surveyed so 13th is dismal and
worsening. Hey, 197 billion here, 197 billion there and soon it could amount to
    a lot of money.

Really Thailand? With all the Thai arrogance these days this outflow of illegal cash is probably some other countries fault. Thailand is continually ranking as one of the worst countries across the board. Nothing to be arrogant about is there. Arrogant third world corruption and greed at the expense of the nation. That is not love for the country at all.

If we could just surpass Malaysia, Indonesia and the Phillipines, we could be a hub for illicit capital outflow.

    8th in global terrorism
10th in illicit funds leaving the country in 2010
53 out of 54 in English proficiency - better than Libya

What is lower than third world?

Surprise? I hardly think so when so many of those guilty are in the "top" echelons of society here. But it is a sadness since the pople who suffer are Thais who are struggling - not the rich who are now to benefit from tax changes.
