His Majesty the King has given 86 rai of land in Lop Buri province for use as a flood retention area (Kaem Ling), capable of storing over 500,000 cubic metres of water, as a New Year gift to the people of Thailand, the secretary of the Chaipattana Foundation said.
Sumet Tantwetchakun said on Wednesday the land in tambon Khok Samrong, Khok Samrong district, in Lop Buri province was given to the Chaipattana Foundation on Nov 15 for use as water retention basins.
Use of these areas would reduce the damage from flooding and also provide water for farmers in the dry season.
