Four jailed for Myanmar migrant deaths

BANGKOK - Four people smugglers were sentenced to up to 10 years in prison by a Thai court after 54 illegal workers from Myanmar suffocated to death inside a seafood container, an official said on Friday.

Four people smugglers were on Thursday sentenced to up to 10 years in prison by a Thai court after 54 illegal workers from Myanmar suffocated to death inside a seafood container, in 2008.

The 2008 incident was the deadliest in a wave of tragedies afflicting migrants making perilous journeys from impoverished Myanmar in search of work in neighbouring Thailand, where they often end up exploited and abused.

I am very shocked to learn those people who were responsible for the
deaths of all those people got off so lightly. I believe more time
should have been given to them.

Any one notice these poor soul 54 migrants lost their life in so miserable way and people who caused them dead got slap in their hands(maximum10 years in prison and most likely will be less). these is barely make news. Why? Readers made their comments heard when the taxi driver got killed .Apparently people enjoy any news that related to politic or politicians. It is proved that justice is not done right to certain goups of people in Thailand will not stirup public's conscience .

25 years sentence combined for the 54 life of illegal migrants lost. So pitiful that Thai court eveen bother to sentence them. The dirt has more value than their live. In the US these horrible act would cost their time in jail 25 years minimum for each victim. You do the math.
