Airport Rail Link discount fails

Airport Rail Link has decided to stop charging the flat 20-baht discounted fare for its City Line after it failed to attract as many passengers as expected, resulting in the service running at a loss of almost two million baht a month, the Matichon website reported on Thursday.

Chamroon Tangpaisarnkit, chairman of the SRT Electric Train Co which runs the Airport Rail Link, on Thursday said the company board had decided not to extend the 20-baht discounted rate ― which began on Oct 1 and ended on Dec 31, for the system's City Line between 11am and 2pm ― because the number of passengers still fell short of the target.

The Bangkok terminus is simply in the wrong place. It needed to get to a relevant CBD landmark. It needed a multi story car park and taxi co-ordination on par with Singapore.

    Key reason Airport link fail:-
    1- train quality, door open/close.
2- escalator only provide to go up but not go down. Do they expect passenger to carry heavy bags down ?
3-no proper parking lot and value added service. he station need to be reinforced and provide a more lighter access road for safety reason.

Following Up on my previous comment, opening an Exit that allows taxis to Turn Right on the road that runs parallel to the train tracks so they can avoid the Asoke traffic jams would cost almost nothing and greatly enhance the access to and from the station. Taxis might even like going there. !!!

The Biggest problem at the Makkasan Station is Taxis. Fist problem is that they are not allowed to exit onto the road that runs parallel to the train tracks. This means that every taxi that exits must go north on Asoke, which is usual a traffic nightmar, only to take 20 minutes to get to a U-Turn to go back South on Asoke into another big traffic jam.
I don't blame the taxis for this poor planning. They need to open an Exit that allows them to Turn Right on the road that runs parallel to the train tracks so that cars / taxis can avoid the Asoke traffic jams and proceed directly to the tourist areas by Sukhumvit Soi 3 or straight to Pratu Nam

    K. Chamaroon, maybe sorting how passengers get from Makkasan station to their destination might help.

Every morning I sit at Petch/ Asoke intersection for 15 minutes while the BIB reads in his box. We drivers amuse ourselves by watching bewildered, sweating , angry tourists struggle past the railway tracks to the intersection, drag their luggage across the intersection dodging bikes, bounce their bags up the subway station steps and finally disappear down into the bowels of the station.

Do you think they take the Sky train back to the airport.

May be they should of looked at making more easy to get in and out of the station in the city and link it to the city better
Just look at other Tain service to airports
