Wage hike not hurting IT retailers

The increase in the daily minimum wage to 300 baht nationwide from Jan 1 will have little effect on the IT retail sector, business operators say.

Yongyuth Chaichana, managing director of IT trading centre at Thaippatana Arcade Ltd, said the wage hike pushed up costs for his firm by only 5%, which is not much.

All industries would be affected by the rise in labour costs, but the effect was minimal for IT businesses, Mr Yongyuth said.

Wage hike is not hurting "IT retailers"??? Is this a joke? This has to be the most carefully cherry-picked economics statistic I've ever seen. Thank goodness the massive "IT retailing sector" is going to be okay. How would one express the importance of that mighty sector as a percentage of GDP? LOL! For a minute there I was concerned that iPad buyers were going to be marginally inconvenienced by the soaring price of milk!
