Rare frost in Nakhon Ratchasima

A rare phenomenon - frost - covered parts of the lower northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, especially Phimai district, on Saturday after a sharp drop in the temperature, Sa-ngad Saimai, director of the provincial meteorological office, said.

Mr Sa-ngad led a team of meteorological officials to Ban Kham in tambon Nai Muang of Phimai district on Saturday morning after receiving a report of frost covering leaves and grass in an empty plot of land.

After checking the weather conditions with local villagers, Mr Sa-ngad said the frost occurred because the temperature at the spot where there was high moisture dropped sharply.

Discussion 4: Yes I remember it was December 2006 and the temperature was around 11-10 in Bangkok and 6-8 in Kanchanaburi.

Dis#2 - some years earlier, the overnight temperature in Bangkok fell to 11 degrees for a few days. Had to wear a sweatsuit until it warmed up during the morning.

Hypothetical "nuclear winter" is the result of very many high yield hydrogen bombs detonating as ground bursts (at ground level, as opposed to air bursts which happen around 15,000 feet) thereby kicking up large amounts of debris into the atmosphere and blocking out a percentage of sunlight. This scenario was a possibility during the Cold War.

I remember late March 2011, Bangkok. For a few days the temperature in this hottest city on the planet wouldn't go over 22 degrees Celsius during the day time. Not long after the Japanese nuclear power plant had gone awry, because of the tsunami. And that was at a time where BKK is usually sizzling. I thought the Nuclear Winter had arrived in Thailand. Weird.

"Frost hollows" are a common phenomena in many parts of the world. Cold air rolls down off of higher ground and forms "pools" of frost in areas of lower ground. Evaporation of any local moisture aids the process.

Please send some down to BKK - it will be most welcome!
