Accused German paedophile caught

CHIANG MAI - Police on Monday arrested a German man in the northern province of Chiang Mai suspected of abducting and having sex with minors.

The suspect, aged 52, from Munich, was arrested at his rented house in Chiang Mai, 600 kilometres north of Bangkok, said Pol Col Virachon Boonthawee of the Children and Women's Protection Division.

"When we raided his house this morning we found him with two boys under the age of 15," Pol Col Virachon said by phone.

Hopefully he will serve 25 years in a Thai jail rather than in the somewhat more comfortable accomodation of western jails. Hopefully every other convict will be advised of his crime of abusing children!

Near my apartment, there is a Prathom teacher,57 years old gay who lives with a grade 6 boy. All his co-teachers knows this and everythings seems normal. Paedophile his rampant here in Thailand than in other countries. Thai people knows this. sorry ...but lets face the truth..

What about those 55 and above Thai men or foreigners who are having affairs with Thai girls age below 20. Is that not the same as this case. Lot of Thai men and foreigners here are lurking in all university campuses trying to catch a university student who needs money for their tuition fee. Even policemen, politician, teachers are committing the same illicit affair. The only different with this case is the German is a gay where his preference is young boys, hahah. Where is consistency there? I'm just asking.

@ianprince #5: Maybe you should wonder why the police arrest a German and not a Thai. Or do you think Thais would never ever do something similar?

#3, you're right, the both are an odious crime, no matter what the sex of the child. Good job today for the Thai police.

Britain and the rest of the EU still subscribe to the ridiculous idea that convicted pedophiles have a right to privacy concerning their past. One of the few things the USA has done right is putting the biographical information of pedophiles and the charges for which they were convicted on the internet for anyone to see. With some crimes you do your time and pay your debt to society, this is not one of them.

It’s good to see that the police arrested this pedophile - and hopefully he won’t be released on bail. But somehow I think there are many more pedophiles out there who get away with this disgusting behavior. Just the fact that the arrested are almost always gay is somehow interesting. Where are the 90% strait guys? Or does nobody ever mess around with the underage girls in Thailand?

Actually Disc 1, this is done already. The Thai Immigration won't allow people to retire here without a police clearance; which is something I completely agree with. My question is why did this man's neighbours not alert the police? Surely when they see a man living with under age people who are obviously not a parent, then alarm bells should start ringing.

Lock him up and throw away the key. Absolutely despicable, and this brings a very bad name to foreign tourists coming to Thailand. How many more of these despicable pedophiles are there in Thailand. All foreigners should be subject to scrutiny at immigration by checking their passports then with the police records in the country they come from. They should not be allowed into Thailand, keep them out!
