Minister berates Feb 30 glitch victim

The interior minister has berated a Sa Kaeo man who complained to the media his birth was mistakenly registered as Feb 30 - a date which never occurs.

Interior minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan on Wednesday responded to a complaint reported in the media by Sangwien Khuncharoen from tambon Khlong Thap Chan, an assistant village chief in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province, that his birth date was officially recorded as Feb 30, a day which does not occur on the calendar.

He asked why he had never contacted the district office about the problem, but instead went to the press.

Why the ministry would be embarrassed or why the minister would even comment on this is beyond me.

OMG, he is an assistant village chief. He got his job through election? He knew about the mistake and yet he choose to talk to the media instead of getting it corrected. There should be investigation as to why the mistake was not corrected.

    Bullying of the worst kind.

How does it happen?Did his parent register his birth if he was born at home? At the hospital they will have registration kept the record of all the birth, doesn't seem right, Why he just complain after all this year he left his mother womb. I would change it to Feb30,2456 might be more believable.

In Sweden there has been a 30th February 1712 (when they switched back from the Gregorian calendar to the Julian calendar).

The Swedes have always been a strange people: they were the last country in continental Europe to switch from left-hand traffic to right-hand traffic, on 3rd September 1967.

D6: Suffering for the mistake? Seems like this guy's "suffering" could have been alleviated with a five minute visit to the district office. Furthermore, this man who is "suffering" either doesn't have enough sense to be village chief, or thinks very little of his constituency.

In other words minister loses face. Blames the other person.

Now how many people with this problem would go to the press to get it corrected. Strange.

Let's consider another issue... Sukumpol's entire case against Abhisit for draft dodging rests on a mis-dated copy of a document.

Given Thai bureaucracy and carelessness (as demonstrated in the story above) isn't it just as likely the date was incorrectly input for that case?

If a mistake was made recify it, Khun Jarupong, dont attack citizens who are suffering because of the mistake. If this is Thailand's future under the PTP, where people who complain are presecuted, then it is a sad state of affairs.
