Students 'forced to become caddies'

KALASIN - Many parents and students gathered outside a well-known school in Kalasin's Muang district on Thursday, demanding the resignation or transfer of its director, who has been accused of forcing female students to work as caddies at a golf club, according to a Daily News report.

A student representative told reporters that Surapong Phusaengsri, the director of Khamin Phitthayasan School, insisted that female students between grade 10 and 12  work as caddies at a golf club about 30 kilometres from the school.

If the students refused he would tell them that the school would not issue grades to them, the representative said.

This is the country that it's Ministry of Education once boasted that the flag pole in front of the ministry was the tallest of them all.

We all know that educational grades can be bought under or even over the table, even at university, this is just an extension of the tea money philosophy in Thailand for education. No wonder why Thailand ranks at the bottom of the world for education.

I believe this is called blackmailing in rest of the world.

Here it will be called a misunderstanding between people from different levels of the society, when someone from the higher level is caught.

Only in Thailand. Imagine what would happen if something like this happened in the U.S.? Or the UK? Surapong Phusaengsri would be facing serious criminal charges.

if you are looking for volunteers, volunteering is a choice not an order. Also, why does it target only the girls?

I would think that a letter would have been sent to the parents seeking permission even for volunteer work, Mr Surapong might have been caught out here.
