The Pheu Thai Party's executive committee on Sunday unanimously picked Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen as the party's candidate for the Bangkok governor election, spokesman Prompong Nopparit said.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra did not attend the meeting as she is not an executive committee member.

Mr Prompong said the meeting agreed to appoint party secretary-general Phumtham Vechayachai as director of the party's election centre.

I'm not a fan of PP party, but I hope he will use connections with the central govt to siphon funds into the money-stricken BMA to solve the capital's numerous problems. If he ever gets elected, of course.

Being well liked and a policemen has nothing to do with the ability to govern a major international city such as Bangkok. He neither has the experience or education to handle such as a task; so one has to ask the question why him? Is this just another string-puppet action so PT can control the city as well? Bangkok has major problems with air pollution, traffic, overcrowding, corruption, racketeering, prostitution, walk-ways, and a host of other problems. The police are know participants in many illegal activities in Bangkok making this candidate highly unlikely to solve any problems and only become a conduit for PT financial/ political gain

It’s just a dry run before taking the Deputy Interior job; a taste of what real politic is about. With most of the lucrative entities taken over by the various government ministries and overlapping functions of other government utilities, this governor job is now reduce to mere ribbon cutting exercises. No respectable true blue politicians will seriously contest for this ceremonial position without some serious persuasion from their seniors. Assuming the present Governor survives through his legal encumbrances and contests for his re-election, the outcome is a foregone conclusion, given the current circumstances

The police seem incapable of enforcing the law which is their job .They also have a reputation for corruption . For this reason I dont think he would be a good governor .
