Full Moon Party mood returns

More than 30,000 foreign tourists have flocked to Koh Phangan to celebrate the first Full Moon Party of the year on Saturday night amid tighter security following a fatal shooting last month.

The event had already attracted 30,000 revellers, mostly foreigners, to the southern island on Friday. Many more were expected to arrive as ferries between the Surat Thani mainland to the world-famous tousit destination were filled with passsengers, said Panu Woramit, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Surat Thani office.

to disc 5 - actually the full moon party was started by a bunch of backpackers in Goa, India and then moved to Thailand. I remember a thai MP wanted to Patent the full moon party.
This was laughed at obviously, people were celebrating full moons at stonehenge long before thailand even existed!!!

I am quite sure there are more thai men who frequent prostitutes then there are thais who know even the most basic traditional buddhist values.
I am also quite sure there are more thai men than foreign men frequenting thai prostitutes. Are you planning to stop them too? :-D

Thailand a buddhist country ?? Nope. A country is never buddhist, nor catholic nor muslim. Only people can (foolishly) adhere to a religion. Thailand has freedom of religion, which means that everyone can also be free of religion. If you want to spend your time in a Wat, Be my guest. But spare me your bigotry. I like to party and booze now and again. And I m not alone. Many thai people do the same, even here in Petchabun. Cheers.

This is what drives corruption and creates opportunities for greed, by polluting Thailand all because of cheap foreign tourists demands. Same goes for cheap bar girls in Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket and every province of Thailand. Seedy tourists creating markets for pimps and dealers to make money, all at the expense of young, ignorant, uneducated bar girls. Many crooked bar owners, many of them foreign and many of them owned by policemen. If the government want to stamp out corruption, educate the police, train them well then pay them well enough where they do not need to resort to corruption.

Have these full moon parties in Venice Beach or Miami Beach or anywhere in Greece or Italy but ban them in Thailand. Thailand is a Buddhist nation and should be respected as a unique culture, rich in history and traditional Buddhist values. Shut down all the rotten, sleazy bars where fat, old foreigners use thai girls that have been dragged into the profession of providing them with sex. They cannot do this in their own countries as too expensive for them. Escort agencies in Europe or USA charge much more:) Kick them out and shut down this segment of the tourist industry as it's ruining too much already the true values of Thailand.
