Man dies in Khlong San hotel fire

A man was killed and five others seriously injured when a fire broke out at Grand Tower Inn Hotel on Charoen Nakhon road in Khlong San district in Bangkok early Sunday morning.

Atcharawdee Chaisuvirat, Khlong San district chief, said on Sunday morning that the dead man was an employee of the hotel. He died of smoke inhalation. The five injured people were taken to a nearby hospital.

Pol Lt Col Arwut Udomrat, an investigator at Samre police station, said the fire occurred on the hotel’s first floor at about 2am and rapidly spread to upper floors.

    Stating the obvious,safety is largely ignored in thailand.Stay at any hotel and mostly fire safety doors are left open,negating any safe escape route in the event of a fire.One hotel although only 1 storey had a balcony at the end of a public corridor with no railing, so any wayward children could easily come to harm if left unattended. Rule No 1 : dont stay anywhere above ground floor...
