Swiss couple drown off Samui beach

SURAT THANI - An elderly Swiss married couple drowned in the sea off Chaweng beach on Koh Samui on Monday evening.

Police reported that the bodies of holidaymakers Oswald Heinrich and his wife Suter Verena were found on the beach in tambon Bo Phut.

Initial inquiries revealed they had checked into the hotel on Monday and later went for a swim. There were high seas and a strong wind at the time. The waves were about two metres high, police said.

If the story is right, why this couples still go far off if they don't know how to swim seeing the 1 meters high waves. I'm quite sure it's not their first time to visit that place and probably are more familiar with the waves. With the initial finding, the police seemed not to conduct any further investigation to confirm it.
