The Public Health Ministry is considering making the graphic warnings on cigarette packs even bigger to further curb smoking.

Ministry officials on Friday met with the Thailand Anti Tobacco Committee to discuss changes to existing regulations. One proposal is to increase the warning from 55% of the package's space to 85%.

The committee would return to discuss the issue further in the next two months, said Public Health Minister Pradit Sintawanarong.

Alcool is arguably a much bigger problem than cigarette in Thailand. What are the authorities doing about it?

Wake up, all this stuff does not work. And neither does prohibition. You are just wasting your time and the people's money, just double the tax, and put ALL of the tax money into healthcare for lung and heart diseases that are caused by smoking.

Why people smoke? The answer to this question can be taken as benchmark in finding a solution on this problem. Making the graphic warnings on cigarette packs even bigger will not help especially those risk takers. A lot of chain smokers reached the age of 70-80, they die of old age not due to smoking.

Cigarettes in the USA are about 12 dollars a pack. 360 บาท

I'd guess those prices would do a lot more to discourage smokers than some nasty pictures. TV videos of cigarette related diseases and suffering might do the trick also.

As a smoker of 66 years I have grown to like the creative pictures and suggest the universally accepted white back ground and a black skull and cross bones !
