Fish near the 304 Industrial Park in Prachin Buri province are contaminated with mercury levels higher than the Public Health Ministry's limit for food safety, the Pollution Control Department (PCD) says.
The PCD collected 23 fish samples from two rivers and six canals in Si Maha Phot district last month and found all had mercury levels exceeding the ministry's safety standard, PCD chief Wichien Jungrungruang said.
In prey fish, 0.04 to 0.37 milligrammes per kg of mercury were found, while other types of fish had between 0.05 and 0.15 mg/kg. These numbers are beyond the ministry's red line of 0.02 mg/kg, he said.
