The average price of a dozen roses in other countries is 3,000 baht, but the price in Thailand is about 4,000 baht, Rawat Chindapol, chief executive officer of Miss Lily Flower, said on Wednesday.

I buy flowers thru out the year if I can't get from my own garden. I found that roses have a shorter life than someother flowers. Valentine day I got the homemade card from my better half. We can afford most expensive flowers on valentine day but we are mature enough not to care for this just like xmas . It lose the meaning.

Which Thailand are you talking about ?

In Europe I have never paid much more than THB 100 PER ROSE and in Thailand roses are way cheaper.

Last time I bought roses in Thailand I paid less than THB 100 for a dozen.

I find this stat hard to beleive, did the writer really research it widely? I can buy a bouquet of nicely arranged red roses during normal days for about $10, and probably find someone to deliver them for me for another $10, cant see many Thais spending $120 for this same service just because its valentines day, unles they are really gullbile. I bet this was one of those over priced interflora places charging some silly farang abroad for roses sent to his bgf.

Is anyone surprised that Thais are willing to pay the highest price in the world? Think about it, these are the same people who are more than willing to pay the equivalent of $120,000 - $150,000 for a car that sells elsewhere for around $50,000.

Just another imported scam from the west.
A long time ago it used to have meaning but now it only means wasting more money.
If you really want to give roses then give a whole rose bush and enjoy them for a long time instead of something with a shelf life of 3 or 4 days.

    Vanity and gullibility.

St Valentine's Day along with Christmas and Easter have been successfully sold to many Thais. Big score for the admen.

Of course they are free to adopt these traditions from the West, this is a democracy after all. A fool and their money etc.

It's a shame Thailand is so resistant to mimicking other Western ways, like low tolerance to the rampant corruption that infests the country. It is possible, this is a democracy after all.

There's a sucker born every minute, many of them in Thailand.

Buy them a week later when they're nearly dead for next to nothing.

The source claiming roses are more expensive in Thailand than anywhere else in the world is the guy who's selling them at that price. And now he's got free publicity for it in the Bangkok Post. Well done him.
