Students oppose university reform

Scantily dressed male students from Kasetsart University gathered at the entrance to parliament on Wednesday to protest against a privatisation plan, demanding all parties involved first be consulted.

Some of the students were clad in only boxer shorts, with protest banners wrapped around the lower half of their body. They also held up written messages opposing the privatisation of their university.

This government tries to reform the country to keep control in prime fields even if nobody elects them anymore. Just imagine who will be the "managing director" of this privatized schools and universities. Then you will get really brainwashed! Students - keep fighting for independence and free education in Thailand!

Having taught at KU and dealt with some of the Neanderthals there , I'm not so sure that privatization could make the place any worse.

garabaldi D4: what is better: "money grabbing investors" that might create some 'quality education' to 'grab' some more or "bureaucratic abuse" that only 'grabs, but does not 'create'!

    Well said GARABALDI

The problem is Thailand has only right wing conservative pro-business political parties. The difference is in the size of the crumbs the poor and workers get.

As left wing political parties are always disallowed, even one resembling a Western European style "social democrat" party, it is just in the end a question of dividing up the spoils among themselves.

Bravo students. Privatization of universities, schools, hospitals, prisons, is surrendering to money grabbing investors. With rare exceptions, actually very rare, it is handing over essential responsibilities to opportunists, who care little for precious and vulnerable sectors of society. Of course, such resources must still be protected against bureaucratic abuse by a vigilant and informed community. Democracy is not only for the people, but also by the people.

I've seen some of the female engineering students, not very many you would want to ogle. But the university councils could well be a problem. They are usually made of up business people, not academics, and are more concerned with profit than education. I have seen it happen.
