Laos, Myanmar begin bridge

Laos and Myanmar have begun the construction of the first bridge to link their countries, and expect to complete it in 2015.

The building of the Laos-Myanmar Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River between Laos' Luang Namtha province and Shan state in Myanmar was launched after the two countries held a ground-breaking ceremony on Saturday, The Vientiane Times reported on Monday.

The construction cost is US$18 million (540 million baht) and the two governments aim to use it to boost trade and investment, and enhance cooperation.

ASEAN 2015 is near... I hope Thailand gets fully on board and does not miss the boat.

PS I laugh at all of the posters who made China out to be the 'boogie man' when their policies of peaceful trade benefit the region. I wonder how many of these posters have even spent time in Yunnan, one of the most beautiful & 'free-est' places that I've ever lived & worked!

Good sign that Lao people(Thai Yai and Lao) have more connection as we connect with Thailand and Laos. True if Thai company involved, it will cost more, but maybe quality is better too.

So!, no reason then to enter Thailand twice! a perfect back-packers tour avoiding the annoying loops and having to go back to Bangkok. Fly cheap to BKK , head to Yangon and the unspolied beached of Myanmar, then Myanmar ( south to North) -Laos ( N to S) - Cambodia - Vietnam ( S to N) Yunnan!!!... damm... Ok, mai pen lai, Chinese tourist will buy all the 3 in 1 bags then and freaks will keep on visiting Pattaya.

If Thailand were involved it would cost twice as much.
