Nigerian online fraud gang busted

Police have arrested three Nigerian men and a Thai woman for allegedly operating an online relationships scam and swindling eight million baht from 18 women.

Police arrested the suspects on outstanding warrants issued by Chiang Mai Provincial Court at an apartment in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 8 in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district on Monday.

They seized four ATM cards, a mobile phone and a notebook containing the names of more than 100 women.

@O000o and maybe others: Can you please explain to us how someone with half a brain and a little bit of self-esteem can become a victim of such a group. When I walk around the bars and I hear something like “sexy-man” I know that this has not much to do with the truth and it’s about making money. So why should I believe it more if someone unknown on the internet tells me something similar?
If you want to meet people on the internet – fine. But don’t expect that all you hear is the truth. If you want the truth see the person in real life. I think that is not soooo difficult.

one busted 999 more to go. This Nigerian scam started more than 20 years ago and began with letters sent, then faxes and now e-mails.

A good friend of mine was a target and victim of this group or a similar one operating from Malaysia. She lost thousands of dollars in the scam. You can think that some one that fails in this kind of scams has to be a bit naif but in fact there are 100's of victims from very diverse social stratus. What surprise me is that the Malaysian group went already to jail 2 years ago but the Thai bases one just now. BKK is really a playground for criminal organizations..oh! I forgot, corruption is not such, it's picturesque cultural matter.

What a great invention Facebook is. How about going out and meeting real people? Or is that too old fashioned?
