Thaksin ally to be chairman of PTT

Vichet Kasemthongsri, a former deputy transport minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra administration, has been chosen as the new chairman of energy giant PTT Plc, as expected.

Upon board approval, Mr Vichet will replace Norkhun Sitthipong, the energy permanent secretary, who abruptly quit his post as PTT chairman last month.

Mr Norkhun's resignation came shortly after Mr Vichet was appointed as an independent director at PTT and is believed to have stemmed from a clash with Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal over company operations.

Oil business requires expert finance, expert E&P management, and leadership. Thaksin has no understanding of what he is getting involved with because if the PTT is mismanaged the company will fail leading to loss of money, loss of people, loss of trust, loss of reputation. They will become weak and vulnerable and collapse. Small companies from developing nations may then try to by pieces of what's left. All the highly paid foreign consultants will be blamed so they will be fired but the tax payer has to pay in the end, the Thai people.
